Throughout the ages, the Middle East has been a hotspot in global diplomacy and politics, with every empire taking turns trying to control it due to its natural resources and strategic and economic location that made it one of the most important geopolitical regions on the globe.
After the fall of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War, the region entered a new era where it became the number one priority of the United States of America. Which indeed set its claws around it by waging countless wars and building dozens of US military bases, currently having 19 active sites throughout the Arab world- almost 2.5% of their active foreign bases in 80 different countries -under the pretense of peace and democracy, and the intent of controlling resources. If we analyze that behavior from a general realist perspective, specifically through the perspective of a clash of civilizations, we can easily recognize how the Western civilization, primarily led by the United States of America, is achieving its interests at the expense of the Arab/Muslim civilization’s interest; the destruction of the region, being one of the costs they don’t care about. The United States leads this effort mainly by military force and through the use of soft power via NGOs such as USAID, which is currently a highly controversial topic. Meanwhile, European countries help discreetly by funding proxy groups that will execute their will. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice openly stated in a meeting with “Israeli” Prime Minister Ehud Olmert during the July 2006 war, “It is time for a new Middle East. It is time to say to those who do not want a different kind of Middle East that we will prevail, they will not.”
After the loss of Western bets on the victory of the Zionist entity, and the prevailing of the resistance axis, the plan of a new Middle East that fully subjects to Western agendas and wills did not bear fruit; while resistance seeds were planted, and would give even more support and power against Zionism in the following years. Recently, a plan for a new Middle East was being fought against. The new middle-east in question is one where the Palestinian cause does not exist, where any form of resistance is killed, and the Zionist entity, is blessed with peace as it leads the region however it needs and oppresses the whole of the Arab world whose governments have sold out for less than 30 pieces of silver. This does seem like a far-fetched Zionist dream, however it has always been closer than expected.
To proceed with such a plan, the Zionist entity knew the importance of a political cover, thus putting double the effort into signing peace treaties with Arab countries, finally signing on September 15, 2020 “The Abraham Accords.” The United Arab Emirates and Bahraincurrently succeeding Egypt, in 1979, and Jordan, in 1994, in normalizing relationships with “Israel”. Two months later, on December 10, Morocco signed a normalization agreement in exchange for US recognition of Moroccan claims over the Western Sahara. A month later, on January 6, 2021, the government of Sudan signed the accords becoming the sixth Arab country to normalize ties with “Israel.” Recently, whispers about a close deal with Saudi Arabia were heard in the global diplomatic corridors in which Saudi Arabia would sign the accord and thus play a pivotal role in achieving the Zionist dream, in return for getting armed shipments and American protection against any attack on them, and allegedly the authorization of a Saudi nuclear civilian program. “I believe that we are at the cusp of an even more dramatic breakthrough, said Netanyahu in the UN General Assembly on September 22, 2023, a historic peace with Saudi Arabia. Such a peace will go a long way to ending the Arab-Israeli conflict.”
The economic part of the plan had been given no less time and attention, as becoming the leading economic power in the region is vital for the survival of the entity and to provide power to force their “legitimacy” on exploited countries in the region. In order to do that, the extermination of any competition was necessary and, today, is almost done. Discoveries of gas fields on the coasts of occupied Palestine started at the beginning of the new century marking a new age for the Zionist entity, and a new common strategic goal with its number one ally. The USA had been fighting over political and economic influence in Europe with Russia whom the whole continent relies on in the energy sector: as reported by the International Monetary Fund, more than 40 percent of European natural gas imports came from Russia in 2020. To change that, the USA had to cut off Russian gas from Europe, attempting to do so by controlling the land pipelines in Ukraine in 2014, then with the mysterious terrorist attacks on maritime gas pipelines Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 on September 26, 2022. With the forced drop of Russian gas exports to Europe, the continent needed a new source of import which turned all eyes on the rich eastern basin of the Mediterranean. This need rushed the ongoing Lebanese studies and claims to its legal maritime borders and natural resources that are neighboring an illegal state that Lebanon doesn’t recognize. In order to solve it rapidly, the US mediated a deal that did not ensure Lebanon’s full rights.
Meanwhile, China, the West’s number one economic rival and core state of the Sinic (Southeast Asian) civilization, worked on reviving the Silk Road under the name of The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which was announced by President Xi Jinping. It has been worked on throughout the years and isn’t expected to be finished any time soon as it is considered to be the most colossal economic project in history. The BRI aims to connect China to the world through trade routes and economic corridors it aims to spread Chinese economic and political influence. Meanwhile, the USA and the Zionist entity worked on their own economic project to stand against the Chinese project and the BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa intergovernmental organization, named after the first five countries that initiated it). The former was openly declared by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as he addressed the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly on September 22nd, “We will not only bring down barriers between Israel and our neighbors. We’ll build a new corridor of peace and prosperity that connects Asia through the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Israel, to Europe.”
In the face of such events, I believe the Palestinian Resistance, in a last-ditch effort tried to push against the conception of this new Middle East, hoping to cause an international crisis that would again, put the Palestinian cause under the spotlight, accompanied by enough military force and pressure in the battlefield, and political support, and negotiations between nations, and would lead back to the two-state solution.
However, due to miscalculations on the battlefield and the shocking silence and injustice of the international community, in trying to prevent the plans of a new Middle East, their efforts backfired causing an unfortunate turn of events.
After launching their surprise attack on October 7th, 2023, the Lebanese resistance joined the next day, in support of the Palestinian people and in self-defense as later on plans will be revealed by Former “Israeli Defense Minister” Yoav Gallant that “Israel” was preparing to launch a surprise attack on the Lebanese resistance, and later invade Lebanon. Soon after more resistance factions joined the fight from Iraq to Yemen. After more than 460 days of war and destruction, a ceasefire was signed on the 18th of January 2025. During that period we have witnessed the unimaginable: cruelty, war crimes, genocide, the breach of almost every international law by “Israel” and thus breaking once and for all any hopes of international law and human rights, as we’ve seen they’re nonexistent if the victims are people of the global south. Only power can protect you, the more powerful you are the less chances you’re attacked or exploited. That’s the reality of international relations, power above all. Unfortunately, due to the interests of powerful nations, none of the International Organizations created to prevent war crimes and to enforce international peace and security were able to stop the ongoing genocide. Even when their workers were targeted, bombed, killed, and assassinated, issuing vague statements was their biggest response when more definitive and military actions should’ve been taken facing the most documented genocide in History.
The reality we will live in after the war and genocide is completely different than the one before. Many philosophers and authors have expressed how there are decades where nothing happens, and there are weeks when decades happen. I believe that we have witnessed, in months, events that are worth decades and have changed the face of our region. On an international diplomatic level, countries will subconsciously rearrange themselves based on their stances during the genocide. Meanwhile, the already shaken trust in the integrity and enforcement of international law and human rights has been shattered beyond repair. Without an International Organization ready to enforce impartial law and order, chaos reigns and each nation will go back to blatantly obtaining more power to protect itself. Furthermore, while it is true that the resistance axis didn’t ultimately lose the war, it suffered to a point where its own existence was in danger. The Zionist entity has managed to assassinate major commanders and leaders of the resistance while killing tens of thousands of innocent civilians and carpet-bombing whole areas to the ground. This has definitely lowered the morale of the people, however, it should be noted that with every atrocity they commit, people will hold on even tighter to their international right of armed resistance against occupation. A phenomenon that was clearly seen last Sunday, at sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Hashem Safieddine’s funeral, during which over a million supporters mourned the late leaders and renewed their vows to resist the zionist enemy and Imperialism. In addition, the fall of Syria’s government in the hands of Western-backed groups that cut the usual road of arms transportation to the resistance, coupled with the wide range of Zionist bombing and destruction of Syria’s military abilities and the current further illegal occupation of its lands are proof of the fall of the resistance axis in the form we previously knew. This was also confirmed on December 14, 2024, by the new self-declared Syrian President Ahmad al Sharaa, previously known as Al Jawlani, who stated that he is not interested in engaging in new conflicts and intends to focus on rebuilding the country, despite the zionist entity occupying “the area south of Damascus” for an indefinite period and prohibiting the new syrian army from entering it, as stated by netanyahu.
We’re entering a new age where many global political and economic changes will happen. With Trump holding office, and his focus on the digital world, we can probably expect the beginning of the shift in the international monetary system into digital currencies with all the new political feuds and races it will bring between “Developed countries”. Meanwhile, after the fall of one of the main fighters for freedom and humanity against imperialism and oppression, the global south will remain exploited hoping to slowly acquire enough power to defend and free itself from Western hegemony.
The international community will not change until a multipolar system is established through which many civilizations are represented and can defend their interests through their core states. I believe this multipolar system can rise if the BRICS nations can solve their internal issues and work effectively to break Western control over the global monetary and economic system. In the Middle East, choosing one country to lead the civilization is near impossible with the unfortunate Shia/Sunni split that is translated in the Iran/KSA leadership. The region might have taken a heavy breath in the past month, however, peace will not reign as long as a foreign entity is forced upon the butchered native civilization. This short breath was interrupted by US President Donald Trump’s multiple statements in which he expressed his wishes to kick out the Palestinians from Gaza into Jordan and Egypt, and is “committed to buying and owning Gaza”. Those statements, accompanied by his issuing of an executive order lifting sanctions against violent Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank, give a clear image of the Western plans to wipe Palestine off the map and clear the route for Zionist expansion over the entire occupied Palestinian lands and the additional newly occupied Syrian land. Meanwhile, on the Lebanese front, the Zionist army has breached the ceasefire more than a thousand times with 330 recorded air strikes carried out by “Israel” between November 27 and January 10, as well as 260 property destruction events. In addition to those breaches, they are violating it by building semi-permanent Forward Operating Bases in at least five locations in south Lebanon. This reflects their intentions of trying to persist in occupying those lands.
The methods and plans of the occupation may differ in their layers and steps, but the goal is one. The extermination of the native Palestinians first, and the expansion into Lebanon and Syria towards their “promised” state. This is the war that is currently being fought, a war to preserve heritage against destruction and chaos, a war that shall be won by those who give everything for their land and Identity, and not those who commit genocides to steal them.
